"Roots and Legacies" Columbus Cultural Art Center exhibit

Celebrate the legacy of 17 Central Ohio artists at the Ohio Art League's Roots and Legacies exhibit

Ron attended the opening reception of the "Roots and Legacies" exhibit at the Columbus Cultural Art Center on 11/18/07. The event was well attended, and the exhibit is dedicated to the memory of artist and educator Ed Colston, and Ray Hanley, past President of the Greater Columbus Arts Council.

The seventeen artists in the exhibition include:

  • Bill Agnew
  • Ralph Bell
  • Smoky Brown
  • Rev. St. Patrick Clay
  • Ed Colston
  • Tony Davenport
  • Ann DeWald
  • Gilda Edwards
  • Jeanne Fryer-Kohles
  • Roman Johnson
  • Robert King
  • Mary Merrill
  • William F. Ollila
  • Mahler Ryder
  • Mildred Slade
  • Robert Stull
  • John Vaughn

Ron was pleased to see many fellow artists, and art supporters from the community attend the reception. He was personally acquainted with many of the artists included in the exhibit, and has been inspired by their work.

The exhibit program includes information about how the exhibition was conceived, and describes how Ohio Art League Director Sean Cooper "...embraced the concept of this exhibition, sought and received funding from GCAC to produce a catalog of the artists and their work."

The Preface included in the exhibit program was written by Denny Griffith, President of the Columbus College of Art and Design. He mentions that he was acquainted with a dozen of the artists, and states that "It is a splendid gesture and a rare opportunity for all of us to reflect on their lives, their work, their passing, and their lasting influence. We were, and are, enriched by them, and we are lucky to have known them."

Columbus College of Art & Design

Columbus College of Art & Design
Faculty Exhibition 2006
9/29/06-12/10/03

Ron is participating in the Columbus College of Art & Design  Faculty Exhibition that will be showcased at the Canzani Center Gallery. The Opening Reception is scheduled for  9/29/06 from 5:00- 8:00 p.m.

The CCAD Faculty Exhibitions feature the faculty member artwork in many disciplines such as fine arts, multi-media video and film, industrial and product design, commercial graphic and Web design, advertising, interior and fashion design, photography, illustration , and the liberal arts.

Ron has included two oil paintings for the exhibit and has always looked forward to participating in the biennial event. He displayed his "Cargo" triptych in the 2001 exhibition and generated quite a buzz about the artwork. The triptych was acquired last year by the King Arts Complex in Columbus, Ohio and is now included in their permanent art collection.

One of the paintings that Ron submitted for the show is entitled " Not Amused". This title is a wonderful play on words and takes dead aim at those times that an artist goes into the studio, and stands before a blank canvas and draws a "blank". Ron said he painted this piece to depict times when his "Muse" deserted him !

Nationwide, Supplier Diversity

I received an invitation to attend Nationwide's 2nd Open House Reception presented by the Supplier Diversity unit of Supply Management Services. The event took place at the Nationwide Plaza III Atrium on Monday 5/15/06 from 8:00-10:00 p.m.

I corresponded with one of the Corporate Buyers after submitting my R.S.V.P and was invited to display five of Ron's paintings in the Atrium for the evening of the Reception. The event provided guests with an excellent opportunity to visit with the "decision makers" on the Supply Managment team and to network with current and potential diverse suppliers of Nationwide who were in attendance.

Ron and I felt the evening was a huge success and we enjoyed the conversations we had with members of the Supply Management team as well as guests who were interested in talking with us about Ron's paintings.

The event was casual with a catered menu and one of the highlights of the evening was the performance of Singer/Songwriter Dwight Lenox. Dwight Lenox and The Lenox Avenue Express Jazz & Dance Band were outstanding professionals. Visit Dwight's web site at http://www.dwightlenox.com for more information about his upcoming performances.

“The Village Seen” exhibit

Juror’s Statement by Ron Anderson

I would like to thank the Board of Directors and staff members of the German Village Society for inviting me to serve as Juror of the November 2005 “The Village Seen” exhibit. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this outstanding showcase and to share my own artwork depicting scenes of German Village at this event.

“The Village Seen” exhibit is a unique opportunity to feature the artwork of many talented artists whose artwork has captured the charm and ambiance of German Village. Many artists have been inspired to paint in and around German Village. It is exciting to see the beauty of the area through the eyes of these various artists.

I hope that this event will be the beginning of an annual quest to inspire our local artists to come and paint the village in plein-air with an exhibit that can honor their work.

In judging the works of art for this exhibit I took into consideration the aesthetic value of the work, and the technical expertise of the artist in manipulating the media. I found a variety of styles and skills in reviewing each piece of artwork. Various artists treated the cityscape only as a model to use as a springboard for creative exploration, and others interpreted the subject matter in a more objective way.

When I am judging artwork, I keep in mind that the artist must be able to speak in his or her own voice. I look at how skillful the artist was in being able to; use the media, compose an image in space, and set a mood while keeping in mind the sense of the place and moment.

I considered; image integrity, experimentation, concept development, and creativity. When I look at a piece of art I take note if the artist has taken an unusual view of the subject. I am looking to see if the artist has a command of the media, and a sense of the place he is capturing through the artwork.

In “The Village Seen” exhibit I hope you will see some of the diversity, skill, and the creativity of the talented artists participating in this event. I hope that all of the artists involved in this exhibition will continue to paint images of German Village.
