High Road Gallery "Art Feast from The Metro East" Juror's Statement

This is a copy of Ron's Juror's Statement for the High Road Gallery exhibit:

The Opening Reception for the High Road Gallery exhibit "Art Feast from The Metro East" is 9/2/07 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The High Road Gallery is located at 12 East Stafford Avenue in Worthington, Ohio.

"I would like to thank Curators, Bev Goldie and Esther Antler for inviting me to serve as Juror of the September 2007, “The Feast at The Metro East” exhibition. It is indeed an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to take part in this celebration of artistic achievement, and to share one of my paintings from my jazz series for this event.

“The Feast at The Metro East” exhibit showcases the work of the talented artists of the Metro East Art League. Artisans from Bexley and Gahanna are members of this local art organization. I am impressed with the creativity and skill of the members participating in this art exhibit.

I would like to thank Gallery owner, Carol Hershey for hosting this event at the High Road Gallery in Worthington, Ohio. Programs that support and bring artists and art patrons together are beneficial to all.

In reviewing the works of art for this exhibit I took into consideration the aesthetic value of the work, and the technical expertise of the artist in manipulating the media. When I am judging artwork, I look for work that impacts me visually. I look for pieces that draw my attention when I view them from a distance, and also when I view them up close.

I considered; image integrity, perspective, technique, experimentation, concept development, and creativity.

When I look at a piece of art I take note if the artist has any structural problems in the piece they created. I am looking to see if the artist has a command of the media, and a sense of the place or subject he is capturing through the artwork.

In “The Feast at Metro East” exhibit I hope you will see some of the passion, skill, and the creativity of the talented artists who shared their artwork for this event.

I hope that all of the artists involved in this exhibition will continue to devote time to their art, and share their work with the community in many future exhibitions."

Wexner Center for the Arts, Public Programs

Teaching Design

Ron was invited to serve as one of the guest speakers at the "Teaching Design" Tour, Panel Discussion, and Workshop event at the Wexner Center for the Arts on 04/25/06.

Guests in attendance were able to explore the field of design and design education in collaboration with The Ohio State University's Department of Industrial, Interior, and Visual Communication Design and Columbus Public Schools.

The Wexner Center for the Arts offered this description of the workshop on their web site:

"...In this workshop, you will tour the exhibition "Extreme Textiles", interact with a panel of design educators, explore design as a focus of interdisciplinary connections, and learn how to introduce design to your students through projects that make them aware of how designers approach real-world problems..."

Art, Science and classroom teachers were encouraged to attend. Ron was very pleased with the enthusiastic interaction of the participants who attended the workshop. He offered demonstrations, fielded questions from the audience and enjoyed the experience.
