The Ohio Assembly of Councils (OAC)
I have been fortunate over the years to have worked with larger corporations that invested time and funds in training and networking opportunities for their staff. As a Business owner I watch for conferences, seminars and workshops that would be of value to me, to increase and enhance my business acumen.
I attended the Ohio Business Opportunity Fair on Tuesday 6/7/05. This was my first year participating at this event and I found the Seminars and Workshops to be time well spent.
The Ohio Assembly of Councils (OAC), consisting of the Northern Ohio Minority Business Council and the South Central Ohio Minority Business Council hosted the Business Fair.
The 2005 Conference took place at the Greater Columbus Convention Center and provided an excellent forum for networking and the building of business relationships.
The Co-Chairpersons for the 2005 Conference included:
Icy L. Williams, The Procter & Gamble Corporation
Wayne Lawrence, Closet & Storage Concepts
I was particularly impressed with two of the afternoon Seminars:
- Leveraging Diversity a Gateway to Business Success- This seminar covered how you define and articulate your core competencies and your "value proposition" as a business owner to your target market.
- Leveraging Opportunities through Joint Ventures, Strategic Alliances and Mergers & Acquisitions- This workshop covered opportunities for growth using these same strategies.
The luncheon was created as a facilitated "Town Hall Meeting" and was a valuable session where conference participants heard Best Practices of senior-level purchasing decision-makers from multiple major corporations. The facilitator fielded questions from the audience as well during this session.
As a business owner, I viewed this event as an excellent opportunity to meet and network with some of the most successful entrepreneurs and Corporate Executives in Central Ohio.
